Rev 2:8  And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;

Rev 2:9  I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

Rev 2:10  Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Rev 2:11  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

He knows what they are going through but still plugging along doing what He wants, and blasphemies of certain individuals who say they are jews but are of “the synagogue of Satan”.  He tells them to endure what they are about to go through, imprisonment and even death for a ten day period.  This is a major trial for these people, and those who hold fast and die get the Crown of life.

He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. Now this is important because all those who are dealt with at the place where rewards are dealt with are not touched by the “second death”.  The second death is also called the Great White Throne Judgment.  This is for those who names are NOT written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.  To truly read this one church’s letter is to truly begin to understand the Christian life.  There is no other reward besides the Crown of Life for those who are “martyred”.

But what do we learn about Jesus here? These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;…  This is His power folks.  He shows us here that He is before all things and after all things cease continues to be Eternal. He also shows us the Cross and the empty tomb. For He came in flesh was crucified and being the Resurrection and the Life He was raised up on the third day. The whole letter to this church is about ENDURING to the end and this Revelation is of He is IS ETERNAL and ENDURING.
